ABOUT US

The Pink October Movember Malta Annual Campaign under the esteemed Patronage of the President of the Republic is spearheaded by The Marigold Foundation and is a nationwide campaign ongoing since 2014.

Its aim is to raise awareness and educate the general public with knowledge eventually empowering it to be less afraid, more mindful and proactive to take care of their health, encouraging testing and early detection that can save lives.

What started with just a small campaign on breast cancer has evolved into a nationwide movement educating and raising awareness on three common female cancers – breast, cervical and ovarian, and on breast cancer, testicular and prostate cancer in males.

Spanning 10 weeks, from mid September to end November, Pink October Movember Malta journeys across the Maltese Islands, from Gozo to Malta, giving lectures and talks in schools, factories, companies, pubs, football nurseries, local councils and wherever it is invited to participate.

Talks and lectures are given by health professionals from SAMOC, trained volunteers and survivors themselves. Our pink van transports our volunteers with our yearly message to all nooks and crannies across the island as we create annual events or participate in events created by our collaborators.

To book a talk please call 📞99912373

The literature that is distributed during our campaign is created annually in collaboration with the health professionals at SAMOC and through research and information gathered through our affiliations and relations with international organisations such as MOVEMBER International, Cahonas Scotland and Europa Uomo.

The annual campaign message is created through the information gathered at the end of each yearly campaign and it evolves and focuses on the results of a survey that is held to measure the effectiveness of the campaign.

Throughout the Campaign we aim to educate and motivate the general public to take care of their health, know the signs, lessen the fear to check themselves, do the necessary screenings and to create a positive environment of positive actions, healthy attitudes and mindfulness. Our goal is to empower individuals to overcome the major challenges that hinder their fight against cancer. We focus on education and prevention.

0ur campaign also addresses the impact of cancer on the mental health of patients and their caregivers in an effort to raise awareness about these challenges, the support available, and to encourage people to seek help.

Our campaign includes activities organised by other NGOs, supports campaigns organised by private entities and, of course events organised by the Campaign Team. Click on The Official Calendar

The Positive Outcomes of Pink October Movember Malta

Whilst educating the public remains top on the agenda, the campaign is responsible for a lot of positive national policy changes such as the onset of earlier free breast screening, the state funding of newer generation medicine including more effective cervical cancer vaccination for girls and the inclusion of boys’ vaccination.

Automatic fundraising is also generated through the various events and activities that are organised by the various contributors and collaborators.

Proceeds from these campaigns have always been returned to the general public through the various health projects the campaign team undertook. From the creation of the first national breast care register, to the second national screening machinery, to a complimentary services system for patients, to handheld biopsy x-ray tools, to a cardio oncology machine, to a brachytherapy ultrasound system and now to the very challenging Oncology services project in the community, proceeds from the campaign are returned in the form of an extended health service towards the public in general and to the numerous cancer NGOs on the island that support cancer patients, mainly Europa Donna Malta, Action for Breast Cancer, Smiling with Jerome, The Karl Vella Foundation, Hospice Malta and Puttinu Cares.

This year the Campaign will focus on Breast, ovarian and cervical cancer in women as well as prostate and testicular cancer in men.  Following a survey commissioned by The Marigold Foundation it resulted that respondents wanted to see more public information campaigns to inform them about these cancers and how to do self-examinations.
